Artist Statement
I was immediately drawn to Mishtiku by the bold colors and use of thread as a method of printing. After trying to create a new landscape by taking elements from different pages, I decided to instead, re-create one of the spreads through my own methods and materials. I felt that this route would best celebrate the text and I was excited about the challenge of trying to mimic tangle threads through embroidery.
