Artist Statement
For the design of this binding I wanted to capture the distinctive texture of the prints produced by Clare Dunne and Sialia Rieke. Using one specific print as my guide I chose to amplify the subtle marks buried between the layers of ink. These pops, cracks and static layers are illustrated through the grain of the leather, onlays and embroidery. The front cover doublure is adorned with an embroidered figure. I chose a pose from the book that best represented the sentiments of the text, a pose that is unequivocally peaceful as it succumbs to the might of our world.
