Artist Statement
The vast range of colors produced during twilight at the beach are interspersed throughout the text and within the collection produced by Jackie. To bring these colors to the cover, I asked the talented Coleen Curry to work her magic with leather dye. At the head of the binding, a brilliant yellow merges into orange and then pink before ending with mossy blues.
One windy summer day, Jackie and I spent a brief afternoon at the beach. As we walked out on the sand bar, we were mesmerized by the waves crashing over our feet. I wanted to capture this moment of time we spent together in the texture of embroidery on leather. The title of the book is stitched in the waves and styled in Jackie’s hand.
