The Secret Knots is a series from illustrator Yina Kim. In this series, Yina creates portraits of strangers whom she studies in public spaces, giving each a tagline describing their imaginary lives. Although Yina does not know any of her subjects personally, she feels that unconsciously we all are connected in secret knots. donna-yinakim louis-yinakim timothy-yinakim jean-yinakim

Number 4 on my Life List is to embroider a self portrait, so you can image my excitement when I was introduced to the work of Cayce Zavaglia! Trained in painting, Cayce utilizes her background to embroider these painstakingly realistic portraits from wool and silk thread. Check out the video below to see her process.

  3. Artist: Luke Stephenson

Photographer Luke Stephenson snaps portraits for an unusual band of characters: from balloon animals to show birds to…

    clown eggs to…

the participants of the World Beard and Mustache Championships…

     and many more

  4. Artist: Emir Sehanovic

Emir Šehanović creates these eerie portraits by layering a hand collaged mass over the individual’s face to eliminate or distort their identities.  There is little to no information on Emir’s website regarding concepts to this manipulation, but each mass reminds me of the results of a burning photograph.  Curling up away from the center revealing a grotesque array of shapes and colors.

  5. Artist: Matt Wisniewski

September 5, 2012 by Erin Fletcher

Matt Wisniewski creates the most alluring portraits by integrating gleaming landscapes and natural forms in a manner that distorts and accentuates the human figure. Matt’s collaged portraits are a result of images collected of a variety of sources, all of which he’s willing to share, plus you can buy prints of his work. Although I wish the image above (from his Mineral Minds series) was available; a wonderful collection of images and color coming together to create this pensive character that reminds me of a synchronized swimmer.
