  1. Artist: Kent Rogowski

October 11, 2012 by Erin Fletcher

In this series simply titled Bears artist Kent Rogowski turns the beloved, iconic stuffed bear into a raggedy, misshapen monster. Turning them inside out and posing them in a slumped and silly manner, each creature peers out with a curious soul through backwards plastic eyes.

Artist Todd McLellan tediously disassembles various machines; keeping every piece he arranges each component in an orderly fashion, giving the viewer a chance to really examine the makeup of these ordinary objects.  Equally tedious, photographer Fong Qi Wei took inspiration from Todd in her series Exploded Flowers, where she takes apart various species of flowers to expose the complex nature of their structures.

  3. Artist: Ariana Page Russell

Ariana Page Russell uses her body’s hypersensitive skin in her photo series appropriately titled ‘Skin‘.  Ariana possesses a condition known as dermatographia, where her immune system releases excessive amounts of histamine causing her skin to welt up for around thirty minutes from the lightest of scratches.  This conditions allows Ariana to use her body in a way many of us cannot, therefore creating some of the most unique images.

Ariana also photographs her flushing skin, using the images to create wallpaper installations and temporary tattoos.  In her photo series ‘Save Face‘ she applies the tattoos on various areas of the body to explore the concept of augmenting one’s identity.
