  1. Moving Images: Motorville by Patrick Jean

April 5, 2013 by Erin Fletcher

I’m not a fan of political work, but Motorville is a cleverly executed animated short from Patrick Jean. The short follows a being made from an American city on a quest to feed its body, which is made from streets, highways and freeways. The animation is so unlike anything I’ve seen.

  2. Moving Images: Jazz That Nobody Asked For

March 22, 2013 by Erin Fletcher

Earworms, we’ve all had them and we’ve all been very frustrated by them. This great animation from Benny Box perfectly projects the extreme anger one may get from an earworm.

  4. Moving Images: Childhood of a Circle

March 8, 2013 by Erin Fletcher

Childhood of a Circle is a heartwarming tale of a lonely creature rewarded by his curiosity from French animator Kadavre Exquis. I love he narration, it’s reminiscent of an outdated educational video from my childhood.

  5. Moving Images: Take a Seat – Make a Friend?

March 1, 2013 by Erin Fletcher

I love this idea from SoulPancake and I think a ball pit should be set-up in every major city (although it should be cleaned every day). Recently I’ve thought about striking up conversation with strangers on the train, you never know what type of connection could be made, but a ball pit offers a more friendly environment to do this than the train.

  6. Moving Images: Auerglass

February 15, 2013 by Erin Fletcher

Tauba Auerbach is one of my more favorite artists currently working today. In 2010, Tauba and Cameron Mesirow (aka Glasser) conceived of The Auerglass, a two-person pump organ. The instrument can only be played with a partner, each player has a keyboard with alternating notes of a four octave scale. The pump action from each player supplies the wind for the other player’s notes.

  7. Moving Images: Tame Impala

February 8, 2013 by Erin Fletcher

Another awesome music video from another awesome band: Feels Like We Only Go Backwards from Tame Impala’s recent album Lonerism. The entire video was animated with plasticine modeling clay by the duo Joe Pelling and Becky Sloan!

  8. Moving Images: Katachi

February 1, 2013 by Erin Fletcher

‘Katachi’ means shape and the term is so elegantly defined in the latest music video from Shugo Tokumaru. Approximately 2,000 silhouettes were used to make this animation. The pieces were cut from PVC plates with the assistance of a computer-controlled cutter. I love seeing the build-up of pieces as the video progress, definately a unique feature.

  9. Moving Images: Wonderful World

January 25, 2013 by Erin Fletcher

Lost Lander explores the evolution of the prime number through this spectacularly pleasing and colorful graphic video. As a bonus to purchasing their album you receive a mini paper planetarium that will project stars in any dark space!

  10. Moving Images: Caine’s Arcade

January 18, 2013 by Erin Fletcher

This documentary from filmmalker Nirvan follows the inspiring story of a 9 year-old boy who builds an arcade in his father’s auto part store. The most heartwarming part is how the community gets involved and makes his dream a reality. Give your support: buy an official Caine’s Arcade STAFF shirt. All profits go towards the Imagination Foundation to find, foster and fund creativity and entrepreneurship in kids.
