One of the very first posts on my blog is titled My Life List, which is essentially an ongoing and ever evolving bucket list. I’ve just crossed off number 35: start and finish a 365 project. On July 10th of last year I began a daily photo project with my friend Anna as a way to keep in touch during the summer months when she would be away from Boston. Early on in the project, I made the decision to explore this photo-collaboration with different people during a period of 30-31 days over the span of a year.
July 10th-August 8th: Daily Glimpse with Anna
Anna is one my closest friends whom I’m met during my studies at the North Bennet Street School in Boston. We both came to study traditional bookbinding and now she’s living in Echo Park and working at the Huntington Library in Pasadena. She is the sweetest and kindest person I’ve ever met, plus her passion for life and food on top of her commitment to friendships are highly contagious. And she always up for engaging in some type of interesting project.
August 9th – September 8th: Daily Glimpse with Josh
Josh is my dearest older brother, just 2 years apart. We had a lot of fun growing up together: playing football in the snow, excavating for dinosaur bones, attempting to bake a cake, combating in the world of Mortal Kombat, etc, etc. During our 30 day collaboration, both Josh and I were in the process of moving. I was just moving across the city of Boston, while my brother was moving away from our home in Omaha to Denver, Colorado. His new home offers everything he loves: music, mountains and sports!
September 9th – October 8th: Daily Glimpse with Frank
Frank and I met through my husband, while attending school in Chicago. He and Frank have known each other since early adolescence. Frank and I quickly became companions over film and television, especially those in the thriller/horror genre. He has such a curious spirit, focusing on the details and technical aspects of film production and photography, staying informed and ahead of the quickly growing technology industry. Four years ago, Frank was the best man at our wedding and wrote the most heartwarming speech; shortly afterward we moved to Boston leaving behind our life in Texas. It was a real treat to get back in touch with Frank and get a glimpse of his daily life in Dallas.
October 9th – November 8th: Daily Glimpse with Lauren
Lauren is Jason’s delightful little sister and my sister-in-law! Lauren and her husband, Josiah, owe a fantastic shop in Austin, Texas. The Burlap Bag sells handcrafted items from local artists and crafters. Lauren is so creative with her shop and in her personal life, she’s also very colorful. Lauren and Josiah are the proud owners of Carrots and Turnip, the most adorable and unusual looking cats who are quite photogenic.
November 9th – December 8th: Daily Glimpse with Laura
Laura and I met as co-workers at Paper Source in Chicago in 2006 and have stayed in touch as we’ve both moved around the country. Laura is such a talented illustrator working freelance and on personal projects. Over the years she’s published a few humorous and informative books on women’s health: Tip of the Iceberg and Cycling. She recently gave birth to a beautiful baby boy who smells a bit like apricots. Laura has such beautiful spirit, full of life and quite a bubbly, contagious laugh.
December 9th – January 8th: Daily Glimpse with Ammon
Josh Ammon is another close friend from my husband’s youth and therefore is also a good friend of mine. Ammon comes from a large supportive family and has a deep caring disposition in regards to his friends and family. Ammon is so full of life and always brings such excitement to any event. He currently lives in Dallas, working very successfully to raise awareness to the growing art culture in the city.
January 9th – February 7th: Daily Glimpse with Henry
Henry is another friend of mine whom I met at the North Bennet Street School. Henry’s talents as a bookbinder and conservator led him to Champaign, Illinois where he runs the conservation lab at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. Henry is such a wonderful friend, sharing his love of awesomely bad 90s television and B-rated films. It was quite a party while Henry was living in Boston, I remember bacon, beer and finally beating Lego Indiana Jones.
February 8th – March 10th: Daily Glimpse with Becky
I met Becky at the North Bennet Street School amongst Anna and Henry. During our second year, Becky’s bench was directly across from mine, which added to my fun experience. When I first met Becky, she was quiet and reserved, but soon she began to open up and surprise me with her wacky humor and overwhelming passion for dogs, knitting and snack time. Becky works as a conservator on many amazing paper repair and book repair projects and lives with her friendly dog, Rooney.
March 11th – April 9th: Daily Glimpse with Meg
Meg is just one of my many awesome cousins. Meg and I were born just a few weeks apart (there is a really adorable, indiscernible photo of us at babies), so we spent a lot time together as kids playing games, making crafts, watching movies and swimming. Today, Meg and I share many nerdy interests and a love for books and writing. Meg recently moved into a new apartment and adding a new companion to her life: Lagrange. So now we share a love of cats.
April 10th – May 10th: Daily Glimpse with Jason
Jason, my husband, had been pestering me throughout this project to be a participant. So I finally caved, creating some of the more interesting combinations of photos from the entire project. Many of our photos were taken at the same time from our different perspectives. So needless to say, we enjoyed surprising each other.
May 11th – June 9th: Daily Glimpse with Jeanne
Another dear friend and fellow bookbinder I made during my studies at the North Bennet Street School. Jeanne is such a sociable, kind and funny person. We’ve recently discovered our love for childhood movies and junk food plus we found a common interest in scary movies. Jeanne is my gal pal, the sort that enjoys shopping and drinking the occasional cocktail. Her passion for conservation and bookbinding is apparent every time we chat. Her talents have already landed her an internship at the Boston Athenaeum.
June 10th – July 9th: Daily Glimpse with Anna
Anna was very eager to wrap up this project with and go for a second round of photo sharing.
