The Secret Knots is a series from illustrator Yina Kim. In this series, Yina creates portraits of strangers whom she studies in public spaces, giving each a tagline describing their imaginary lives. Although Yina does not know any of her subjects personally, she feels that unconsciously we all are connected in secret knots. donna-yinakim louis-yinakim timothy-yinakim jean-yinakim

Over at Hideous Things. you will find things that are not so hideous. The artwork of Chelsey Pettyjohn may not seem beautiful to everyone, but I find a certain attraction to her heavy brushstrokes and thick application of paint. The unusual color choices for skin tone are intriguing and the coarse stare of her characters are perfect in her Commandments series.

The paintings and sculptural work of Pedro Friedeberg are just wild. A psychedelic M.C. Escher-esque style choke-full of bright colors and bold patterns offering up illusions and fantasy.

These stills from various video works and performances are strikingly similar to the art films of Georges Méliès. Ryan W. Kelly has a real talent for constructing a scene of fantasy with his detailed, pictorial scenery and impressively sculpted props.

Taking inspiration from a love for nature and classic video games, Laura Bifano paints polygonal animals out in the wild in the series Menagerie. Laura’s work has a very whimsical, fairy-tale like quality, very soft and nostalgic.

Bob Waardenburg draws out these complicated geometric illustrations as a critique on society. Exploring our obsession with growing technologies while losing a relationship with reality, perhaps causing fear. Either way these drawings are impressive and offer a bit of optical illusion.

Saturated with color and humor these goofy ceramic pieces from Lili Scratchy are just brilliant. I mean, who can resist little spoon people or quirky body parts with eyeballs. mathematiques-liliscratchy face-liliscratchy meringues-liliscratchy debouts-liliscratchy plateroar-liliscratchy
