Randy Grskovic transforms our perception of reality through his collaged work. Instilling humor, beauty and mystery into familiar imagery: landscapes, family portraits and candid photographs. Memory is tricky, when we recall a moment in our history holes appear in the story, so we use imagery as a guide. Through his work, Randy explores what can happen when this documentation is lost, how will we remember?

January 31, 2013 by Erin Fletcher
Inspired by the shapes in traditional American quilts, Lena Wolff collages each piece with paper and hand-cut painted pieces of watercolor and gouache or simply designs them with pencil. The triangle is commonly used in quilting, in Lena’s case the triangle successfully carries the eye through the design.

Artist: Claire Falkenberg
January 24, 2013 by Erin Fletcher
There is something frustrating yet mystifying about the work of Claire Falkenberg. Massive hazy orbs appear almost illuminated and purposefully obstruct our full perspective, allowing only subtle hints of what may lie beneath. I feel compelled to stare, as if my gaze will break through the barrier revealing the hidden imagery.

Artist: Shaun Kardinal

It should come to no surprise that I love the work of Shaun Kardinal, who so wonderfully combines my two favorite materials into his art: thread and paper. Shaun applies thread with calculated precision, embroidering symmetrical patterns over collaged ephemera. His pieces are incredibly affordable as well, so be sure to stop by his shop.
Shaun also offers the series Alterations, a collection of altered vintage postcards:

Artist: Hagar Vardimon-van Heummen

Simply put, artist Hagar Vardimon-van Heummen proclaims ‘love paper, love thread and adore the combination.’ In this lovely series titled Lonely Houses, Hagar expands from the familiar to extraordinary works of art. I particularly love how the angle of the thread mutually competes with the angles of the structures.

Chris employs a wide variety of materials in his work, from photos to string to mirrors and light, all as a means to investigate perception and balance through repetition and reflection.

Corralling clients such as Devendra Banhart, Coca Cola and Nylon Magazine, artist Liz Riccardi is spreading her wacky illustrations all over the place. What I love about Liz’s work, is the pleasure of creating and imagination is so apparent in each of her pieces.

Artist: Julien Pacaud
December 6, 2012 by Erin Fletcher
A former astrophysician and hypnotist turned artist, Julien Pacaud, creates prints lost in reverie. Each imaginative scene appears as a daydream, combining vintage imagery with muted tones and scant bursts of vibrancy. Pacaud’s work is available through several galleries and at his shop.
